A university spokesperson said:

“The protest in the reception area of the Aston Webb building ended just before 5pm today when the remaining 30 protesters left.

“We are grateful to the police and our security staff for their support and professionalism throughout the day.

“The safety of the students and staff that make up our campus community remain our main priority. No lectures were cancelled today and the campus continues to operate as usual.

“Today’s protest was not organised or endorsed by the National Union of Students or the University of Birmingham’s Guild of Students. The university continues to work closely with our Guild of Students during what is a challenging time for all in higher education. The university values the strong, regular and continuing dialogue with our students."
