The University of Birmingham has been named one of the top 40 Universities Abroad Worth Traveling For by a US travel website.

The 2014 list, compiled by FlipKey, which is part of the TripAdvisor Media Group, recognises must-see universities with some of the best attractions, architecture, history, and beautiful campuses in the world.

The selection was based on surveying traveller reviews from the past year and rankings of top university attractions around the world. A team of travel experts at FlipKey then narrowed the list down to choose the universities most worth visiting based on their appeal to US tourists.

University Square

The University of Birmingham is home to the world’s tallest freestanding clock tower, showcases historic redbrick architecture and has 6,500 trees within its 350-acre campus. The University also boasts its own art gallery – the Barber Institute of Fine Arts – two concert halls, one of the oldest specialist geological museums in the UK and a wealth of libraries, archives and collections.

Matthew Moretti, Content Marketing Analyst, FlipKey said:

‘Studying abroad when enrolled in college in the US is extremely popular and fulfilling. Being able to receive education from a top university in an exotic location proves critical to one's academic and personal growth.

‘Outside of academic interests, these international schools feature jaw-dropping architecture, flawless grounds, and must-see attractions. Whether you are college-age and shopping around, or checking off boxes on your bucket list, consider stopping by our list of top international universities worth visiting on your next vacation.’

The University of Birmingham currently has nearly 100 American students following a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across its five academic colleges; from Law and Shakespeare to Robotics and Biosciences.
