Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard has been awarded a Damehood in the 2022 New Year Honours.
Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and Professor of GP Education at the University of Birmingham, has been awarded a Damehood in the 2022 New Year Honours.
A part-time GP partner at a large group practice in Lichfield, Staffordshire, which she joined in 2002 after completing her training in inner-city Birmingham and at Birmingham Medical School, she receives the award for services to general practice.
Professor Stokes-Lampard is Chair of the National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) and was Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) until Nov 2019. She is currently on a three-year secondment from the University (July 2020-23) as Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC).
Having worked in obstetrics and gynaecology for several years before training as a GP, her diverse research interests have spanned gynaecological cancer screening, all aspects of women's health, epidemiology and data linkage studies.
I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Professor Stokes-Lampard for this well-deserved public recognition of her outstanding achievements in her field.
Professor Stokes-Lampard said: ‘I was completely overwhelmed and humbled to hear of this honour; I see this as public recognition of our remarkable UK General Practice and the wider health and care teams with which I have worked over the years. They have all worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic and given their heart and soul for the patients and communities they serve.
‘I am so grateful to have had the opportunities to work as a frontline GP, a University academic and to be elected to chair national medical organisations whilst having the unstinting support of my wonderful husband and family throughout.’
