Applied and Computational Statistics
The main interests of this group cover a wide array of interdisciplinary areas.
The interests include multivariate nonparametric statistics, time series analysis, statistical computing, Bayesian inference, uncertainty quantification, data science, clinical trial design (in particular stepped wedge cluster randomised trials), applications in bioinformatics, medical sciences, neuroscience, economics and finance.
The group also has strong interdisciplinary research links with other internationally acclaimed research groups. There is a weekly seminar with invited external speakers on Data Science and Computational Statistics.
The University of Birmingham is a member of The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. More activities will be advertised on the Institute for Interdisciplinary Data Science and AI webpage; you are welcome to subscribe the DATA@Birmingham newsletter to receive regular updates.
Research students are welcomed in to the research group and are actively involved in all research activities. To find out more about PhD and MPhil opportunities please see the Graduate School for Mathematics.
