  • Garvan Institute – Sydney, Australia (2007-2011)

What attracted you to the University of Birmingham?

The research environment across several disciplines. There are experts in a range of fields as well as facilities to support the research. I saw the opportunity to be able to develop my research programme here which involves immunology, infection, cancer and metabolism. Also, the large amount of clinical and translation research at Birmingham is quite unique.

What are you hoping to accomplish while in Birmingham? 

To establish myself as a world leader in gut-microbe interactions, and hopefully implement treatments for cancer based on this.

What medical discovery are you hoping will be achieved in your lifetime? 

Being able to successfully manipulate/utilise microbe-host interactions to treat a variety of diseases.
