Clinical Academic Training for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals

Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals are increasingly required to develop academic careers alongside their clinical and managerial responsibilities. The National Institute of Health Research has therefore funded a series of academic training pathways to support and assist nurses, midwives and allied health professionals in their career development.

Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals wanting to pursue a clinical academic career should consider applying for the following awards, according to their current level of academic training:

  • Masters in Research and Masters in Clinical Research, University of Birmingham runs an MRes in Health Research  
  • Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship in order to obtain a PhD. Visit the NIHR Fellowship Scheme website.
  • Nurses, midwives or allied health professionals who wish to base an application for their academic training at the University of Birmingham should speak to Rachel Bruton.
