Claire Potter

MDS Head of Research Delivery

Claire is the MDS Head of Research Delivery and A-TAP Operations Manager. She is based in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham, where she is responsible for overseeing the operational support to the College’s key strategic projects, facilities and Centres.

Claire has over 20 years of experience in project and operational management roles working in and with academia, government, the NHS, charities and industry, including a one-year secondment as the Operational Manager at the NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure. Claire has a BSc (Hons) and a PhD in Biological Sciences.

Translational Research Team Lead supporting IAHR

Claire joined the University in 2011, supporting researchers within the College of Medical & Dental Sciences in the identification of novel intellectual property. She has subsequently managed the internal Medical Research Council Confidence in Concept and Proximity to Discovery funding schemes, the Cancer Research UK Birmingham Centre and now leads the Translational Research Team.

Claire has a MEng in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Birmingham’s College of Engineering & Physical Sciences and experience in the healthcare industry, working as a researcher for both growth consultancy and medical device companies.

Jane Gilmour

Translational Project Manager supporting the NIHR BRC, IIA and III

Jane studied Experimental Pathology at the University of Glasgow prior to completing a PhD in the field of asthma and respiratory science at King’s College London. Jane was formerly a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow and the University of Birmingham, with experience in the fields of stem cell biology, gene regulation and genomics.

Translational Project Manager supporting ICGS, ICVS and IMSR

Manuela completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Lisbon before completing her DPhil in Immunology at the University of Oxford. After working as a postdoctoral scientist in the areas of Transplantation and Cancer Immunology and Autoimmunity at the University of Oxford for several years and at UoB since 2013, Manuela decided to apply her knowledge and expertise to a different role and joined the Translational Research Team in 2019.

Angie Murray

Translational Project Manager supporting Drug Discovery Initiatives, ICS and IMI

Angie completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of York, before completing a Masters of Research in Marine Technology at Newcastle and then a PhD in Biochemical Engineering at UoB. Before beginning her current role, Angie was a postdoctoral researcher at UoB, working in the fields of microbiology, nanotechnology and environmental remediation.

Angie is currently on secondment to the Business Engagement Team.

Tamara Jordan

Research Delivery Project Manager

Tamara joined the Research Delivery Team in March 2019 after spending over twelve years in Research Finance here at the University of Birmingham in both pre- and post-award roles. Tamara currently provides financial management support to the Head of Research Delivery and supports the financial management of the strategic block grants managed by the Translational Research Team, including the MRC Confidence in Concept and Wellcome Translational Development Funds.

Alice Sayers

Translational Project Officer

Alice supports activities and events related to the Birmingham-Wellcome Institutional Translational Partnership Award, awarded to the University in 2019. Alice also assists in the management of internal translational research grants, including MRC CiC and P2D and the Wellcome TDF funds.

Alice is a member of the Birmingham Professional Committee, helping to organise engaging events for professional services staff. Alice graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MSci (Hons) degree in Chemistry with Industrial Experience in 2018, having spent a year working in R&D at GSK.

Nicky Beaumont

Translational Research Administrator

Nicky is an Administrator within the Research and Knowledge Transfer Office in the College of MDS. Nicky’s role is to provide administrative support to the Translational Research Team and the wider office team. Nicky joined the University in 2019 after working within R&D at University Hospitals Birmingham.
