Scientists from the University of Birmingham led by Anna Peacock have just published a paper in JACS on the de novo design of coiled coils for imaging applications. These coiled coils can selectively coordinate lanthanide ions which can be of  interest for various imaging applications. The study in particular describes promising preliminary MRI results for the designed gadolinium coiled coil.
