Cognitive computational neuroscience

In this theme, we bring together interdisciplinary researchers across cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and computer science to unravel the intricate workings of the human mind. We aim to understand the mechanisms underlying cognitive and behavioural processes by employing advanced computational models and analytical techniques.

Cognitive computational models, often inspired by mathematical principles, reveal how the brain processes information. By comparing the outputs of these models with actual human behaviour and brain activity, researchers can gain insights into the underlying cognitive processes. We can also build computational models of cognition and behaviour to ask if we can unravel how and why people make different decisions, learn differently, or why some people might be more motivated than others. Ultimately, we aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of human cognition and pave the way for applications in areas like artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, social policy, education, and therapeutic interventions for cognitive disorders.
