Engagement with research and scholarship
Centre for Employability, Professional Legal Education and Research
CEPLER works to enhance links between Birmingham Law School and external stakeholders within the legal profession and beyond, in order to enrich the co-curricular, education, research and scholarship activities undertaken across the School.
For example:
- We host workshops and events that seek to bring together academics and those in legal practice to identify opportunities for timely and impactful research that is responsive to the needs of practising lawyers and their clients.
- We disseminate the world leading research produced by Birmingham Law School researchers to our professional partners to help inform and shape their practice.
- We utilise our links with professional practice and public, private and third sector organisations to facilitate external input into the delivery of our curriculum, through:
- guest lectures
- creation of authentic assessments based on real-world situations; and
- collaboration with a Steering Group, made of up external partners, which meets annual to help inform and shape our strategy.
- We proactively support Birmingham Law School’s research cluster on the Legal Profession and Legal Education, engaging with a wide variety of themes in this area, including: legal ethics; access to legal services; the regulation of lawyers and lawyering; globalised legal services and the free movement of lawyers; diversity in the profession; and the where, why and how of pro bono.
