Our Teams

Supporting the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) is a dedicated team of 35 professional services staff. Operating under a unique, multi-skilled model, the team brings together technicians, Educational Technology (EdTech) specialists, IT experts, and Operations staff to facilitate a wide range of STEM teaching activities across the CTL’s nine laboratories.

From preparing resources to supporting sessions in real time, the team ensures that every student benefits from seamless, expert guidance in an environment designed for hands-on, collaborative learning.

How We Work

Overseen by our Academic Director, the CTL team collaborates closely with our partner Schools to deliver teaching that meets each discipline’s specific needs. Technicians rotate between labs and disciplines, while specialist teams manage resources, technology, and operational logistics.

Academic Director

The link between the CTL and the academic colleagues that teach in the CTL Labs. The Academic Director sets the direction for the CTL, working closely with senior University colleagues to ensure the CTL continues to provide students with an industry level teaching experience.

Lab Teams

Subject and equipment experts who support the academics to deliver the student learning outcomes during timetabled sessions.

Set-up Team

Technicians who enable the quick turnaround of teaching spaces by setting up and clearing equipment, consumables and teaching resources, working across all nine of the CTL labs.

Prep Team

Technicians working behind the scenes to prepare and validate the resources, chemicals and samples for use in teaching. These technicians work closely with academics to ensure all practical sessions are optimised and running smoothly.

Educational Technology Team (EdTech)

Working with Academics to create the Pre-, In- and Post-Lab on-line educational material, ensuring students are well equipped to use their time in the lab as effectively and efficiently as possible.  

IT Team (CTL)

On-site IT experts, responsible for the CTL's IT Infrastructure and available to troubleshoot any technical issues that appear during teaching sessions as well as maintaining over 600 PCs housed in the CTL labs.
