A recent POSTnote, a research briefing published by the UK Parliament, Consumer debt and mental health, included reference to Özlem Ögtem-Young’s research entitled ‘Living with the Cost of Living Crisis: Experiences of Castle Vale Tenants & Residents’. This is a significant contribution emanating from the work of Özlem, our theme lead for Poverty, Precarity, Saving and Debt.
The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) works to ensure that the best available research evidence and information is brought to bear on the legislative process and scrutiny of Government. It primarily supports the select committees of both Houses.
In its overview the report (published in October 2024) states: “Evidence suggests a two-way relationship between financial and mental wellbeing. Studies estimate that people with mental health issues are three or more times more likely to have problem debt.”
