Research in Art History, Curating and Visual Studies
Research in the Department of Art History, Curating, and Visual Studies stretches from the medieval period to the contemporary and expertly addresses topics and questions from all over the world.
Our four research streams demonstrate the breadth of our current work. These research streams overlap and intersect, with colleagues working and collaborating across their parameters. Several of us have specialisms in art from and in relation to Britain, and this work shapes teaching on our British Art Pathway that is an optional part of our MA History of Art programme.
We are the home of Midlands Art Papers, an open-access online journal and collaborative curatorial programme between the University of Birmingham and 13 cultural partners which researches and showcases the outstanding works of art and design in public collections across the Midlands.
