Metamaterials & Antenna Engineering (MAE)

We are working on a range of projects that use metamaterials as an enabling technology for the development of innovative solutions to the emerging needs of industry in the areas of communications, radar, imaging and sensing.
We have research expertise in the following areas:
- Analysis and design of electromagnetic metamaterials and metasurfaces
- Microfabrication of THz metamaterials, antennas and components
- Metamaterials-based Antennas for 5G Communications and beyond
- Millimetre-wave and Terahertz metasurfaces and antennas
- Dynamically reconfigurable metasurfaces and antennas
- Active non-Foster metasurfaces
- Sub-wavelength focusing antennas
- Broadband high-gain leaky-wave antennas
- Frequency selective surfaces (FSS) and arrays
- Electrically small antennas and super-directive arrays
One of our current research focuses is the development and testing of advanced, reconfigurable metamaterial components and high-performance antennas for future mobile broadband networks (5G and beyond) in the millimetre-wave and THz part of the spectrum.
