Telling stories through social media
Ruth Page’s research explores how people tell stories on social media and why this matters in real world contexts.
Her work has pioneered a model of ‘shared stories’ which accounts for the ways that people interact around a common narrative, whether that is unfolding political events, crimes and convictions or a favourite television show. She is interested in the power of stories to challenge or reinforce social structures.
Ruth’s research has explored stories in a range of mediated contexts, from mainstream news reports to blogs, social network sites and most recently short-form videos. She has worked on a number of interdisciplinary projects, most recently collaborating with psychologists, public health researchers and big data companies to tackle stories about mental health in social media.
