History of REACH
The history of REACH has evolved through several key stages over the years. It all began in 2017 when Professor Collette Clifford and Dr Alistair Hewison launched a research programme focused on End of Life Care (EoLC). Building on this foundation, by 2021 Professor Cara Bailey took the lead with the Supportive and End of Life Care Research (SPEL) initiative. The momentum continued to grow, and in 2022, the BRHUmB was established, serving as the West Midlands' dedicated research hub for palliative and end of life care. Bringing us up to the present, in 2023, the REACH initiative was introduced. REACH is expanding its focus into pivotal research areas, encompassing end of life care, advanced illnesses, including chronic health conditions, as well as other intricate areas of health and social care research.
