Bill Chaplin is Head of School and head of the Solar & Stellar Physics Research group at the School of Physics and Astronomy at Birmingham. His research is focused on using observations of the natural oscillations of the Sun (helioseismology) and other stars (asteroseismology) to further our understanding of stellar evolution theory, the solar cycle and stellar variability more generally.

Guy R. Davies is an Associate Professor in Astrophysics. He uses the sounds of the Sun and stars in an attempt to understand the world around us, with a particular focus on the development and application of novel, advanced data-analysis techniques (including applications of machine learning and Bayesian inference).

Professor Elsworth is active in research in the areas of solar and stellar physics uses their natural oscillations as a measurement tool. Data on the Sun are collected by the international BiSON network which is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council. Associated research areas of interest are in instrumentation.

Professor of Exoplanetology
Birmingham Fellow
School of Physics and Astronomy
A regular visitor to observatories in the Atacama desert, Professor Amaury Triaud is the discoverer of over one hundred exoplanet planets (planets which orbit stars other than the Sun). His research concentrates on extracting empirical evidence about the physical processes that lead to the formation and evolution of planets.
