The annual report of activities of CREES underlines the vibrancy and dynamism of the Centre as it enters its sixth decade.
CREES staff published a host of books and articles, maintained their tradition of close links with the policy-making community, and gave a number of presentations at leading international conferences.
Among the most significant developments during the year was the renaming of the Centre from the Cold War era 'Centre for Russian and East European Studies' to the 'Centre for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies' which is not only more appropriate for the twenty-first century, but more importantly it reflects better the diversity and geographical breadth of colleagues in the Centre which stretches across the European continent into Central Asia.
The Centre does remain very proud of its tradition as one of the world's leading centres for the study of the region over the past five decades. Indeed, one of the publishing highlights of the year was the sixth volume of the landmark Industrialisation of Soviet Russia series written by founding director of CREES Robert Davies. He is already working on the seventh and final volume!
