Join Kaori Kikuchi, Assistant Professor at the University of Tsukuba Japan for a discussion on current education reform in Japan

In Japan, issues of diversity have been prominent, especially since the enactment of the Revised Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act in 1990. However, a dichotomy still exists in society between the concepts of a national and a foreigner. This talk will outline how education policy addresses diversity issues and will describe the recent development of citizenship education. It will further discuss the issues of disconnect between diversity and citizenship and therefore the necessity of reconstructing 'national citizenship' to make it more inclusive.
