The Birmingham Energy Institute is delighted to invite you to the official launch of the Birmingham Centre for Strategic Elements and Critical Materials. The Centre encompasses expertise from across the University of Birmingham and from the Birmingham Energy Institute (BEI) in biosciences, chemical engineering, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, economics, law, materials science, physics, and the social sciences.

Over recent years the world’s supply of many elements includingrare earths and platinum group metals has come under increasing pressure from short supply. Some countries have begun to use their position as a primary producer of strategic elements to dominate the downstream supply chains. Given the huge importance of critical materials containing these elementsto many of the UK’s largest industrial sectors including many aspects of the clean energy market, action is urgently required. Researchers at the University of Birmingham are investigating sustainable solutions to the resource constraints that may be encountered with strategic elements and critical materials within the UK.

We hope that this event will trigger wider discussion of this key topic. If you would like to attend, please reserve this date in your diary and register your attendance here.

If you require further information, please contact Gavin Harper, Energy Development Manager, Birmingham Energy Institute.

We look forward to welcoming you.
