Mental Health
Improving mental health services and care
No other health condition matches mental illness in the combined extent of prevalence, persistence and breadth of impact.
We are collaborating with the public sector, patients and industry to conduct vital research needed to improve outcomes and care for people with mental health conditions.
Since 75% of mental health conditions are established by the age of 24, early intervention is critical. Our experts focus on maternity, childhood and young people to ensure research provides the evidence to get prevention, treatments and services in place at this early stage. We work closely with patients to ensure research and interventions meet community needs.
Our research is central to the UK Government’s ‘Mental Health Mission’ and we are working with patients, NHS Trusts and innovators to develop new treatments and technologies and make the UK a leading location in mental health research.
We are working to improve the outcomes and care for young people with mental health problems. We will do this by working together to understand the causes of poor mental health, prevent mental health problems from developing, and respond to established illness by developing new treatments and services.
