The Spring Statement: 2018 Reactions

“The Chancellor needs to act with care as there is a real danger that taxation innovations developed and implemented by one country will alter the unfolding geography of globalisation. In other words, activity will move away from the UK. Taxation policy needs to enable, rather than act as a barrier to, business and this is especially the case as the UK transitions into a post-Brexit place in the unfolding global economy. ”

As the Chancellor gave his frist Spring Statement on Tuesday 13 March, he gave a 20 minute overview of the economy based on projections by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR). A full Budget will be announced once a year in November. University of Birmingham experts gave their analysis of this mid-term review.
