Digital wellbeing workshops

Digital wellbeing goes beyond knowing how to use a device. It is about having the confidence and judgement to use technology in ways that support health, relationships, safety, independence and personal agency.

Through these workshops, the digital inclusion and wellbeing hub helps participants build the skills and confidence to use digital tools safely and effectively across health, finance, public services, family communication, online safety, AI and privacy, while fostering healthier and more intentional digital habits.

How to progress from anxiety to agency?

The programme begins with low-pressure confidence building, then develops connection, access to essential services, online safety, healthier digital habits, AI awareness and privacy planning. The aim is not simply to encourage more technology use, but to help people make better-informed choices about when, why and how they use it.

What does the workshop learning journey include?

Workshops can be delivered as a six-session programme, helping participants build confidence and practical digital skills step by step.

  • Session 1: Digital confidence and device basics
  • Session 2: Staying connected through messaging and video calls
  • Session 3: Health, finance and public services online
  • Session 4: Staying safe online and spotting scams
  • Session 5: Screen time, habits and everyday wellbeing
  • Session 6: Introduction to AI, privacy and digital legacy

What will be the outcome?

Feedback and facilitator observations suggest that participants often:

  • Feel more confident completing unfamiliar digital tasks independently.
  • Apply greater caution when assessing messages, links and requests for personal information online.
  • Make more deliberate decisions about privacy, security settings and the information they share.
  • Use digital tools more purposefully to stay connected, access services and support everyday activities.
  • Reflect more consciously on screen use, notifications and the role of technology in their daily lives.

How we support participants?

A supportive, practical and participant-centred approach helps learners build confidence at their own pace.

  • Clear, jargon-free explanations that make digital concepts easier to understand.
  • Opportunities to practise using participants' own devices wherever possible.
  • Safety, privacy and wellbeing embedded throughout every session.
  • Take-home resources to support continued learning and confidence-building.
  • Learning that builds confidence through repetition, peer support and achievable successes.

The workshop was very well received by our community. It was practical, accessible and engaging, and provided valuable support in building participants’ digital confidence. We greatly value our collaboration with the University of Birmingham.
