The Effective Women’s Centres (EWC) Partnership
The Women, Crime and Justice Research Group (WCJR) is proud to be the research partner in the Effective Women’s Centres (EWC) Partnership, a national collaboration dedicated to improving outcomes for women in the criminal justice system and those at risk.
Who We Work With
The partnership brings together leading organisations, including:
- The JABBS Foundation for Women and Girls
- Anawim – Birmingham’s Centre for Women
- Farida Women’s Centre (Partners of Prisoners)
- The Nelson Trust
- Salford Foundation
- Stockport Women’s Centre
- Together Women
- The Women’s Centre Cornwall
Our Role at UoB
As the academic research partner, UoB leads on evidence-building and evaluation.
We:
- Analyse complex needs and trauma experienced by justice-involved women, considering factors such as age, ethnicity, sexuality, and geography.
- Identify best practice models for holistic, community-based interventions, including the Corstonian ‘one-stop shop’.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks, including the use of WRNA outcome data, to strengthen impact and accountability across Women’s Centres.
Why This Matters
The EWC Partnership is transforming policy debates by showing that gender-responsive, trauma-informed services work. Our shared vision is that women across England and Wales have access to sufficiently funded, person-centred support that recognises their strengths, amplifies their voices, and empowers them to create better futures.
