Therapies for Long COVID (TLC) Study

Transcript

Dr Shamil Haroon: COVID-19 is the single biggest health event that's occurred in our lifetime. There is a great need to understand what is causing the longer term symptoms that many individuals with COVID-19 are experiencing. We aim to identify patients with Long COVID from GP records and then inviting them to take part in the study by reporting their symptoms, their quality of life, and their ability to work.

Professor Melanie Calvert: We're delighted to be working with a small and medium enterprise (SME) Aparito Limited, who are providing an app for patients to record their symptoms, and we'll use this alongside biological and immunological data to be able to work out what is causing these effects.

Dr Shamil Haroon: I hope our research will help us to understand what causes Long COVID and how best to support people who have these long-lasting symptoms in order to improve their quality of life.

COVID-19 has knocked me sideways, with a long and debilitating battle since initially becoming ill in March last year... Each day is baby steps in terms of recovery, but almost one year on I am still battling a myriad of symptoms from memory loss to difficulties breathing, pins and needles, and immobility.
