Laboratory research
We are interested in the relationship between headache disorders, sex hormones, and obesity, particularly in migraine and idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH).
The contribution of obesity to the exacerbation of headache remains poorly understood, as does its interaction with key biological pathways involved in pain processing and intracranial pressure regulation. In addition, the role of sex hormones in driving migraine and IIH related headaches is not yet fully defined, despite clear clinical associations.
Our in vitro and in vivo laboratory studies use molecular, electrophysiological, and behavioural approaches as well as intracranial pressure monitoring to investigate how sex hormones and obesity influence trigeminovascular activation and headache.
