Call for papers and posters

We are delighted to offer two opportunities for participants to submit abstracts for papers or posters that address the following themes. 

Research themes:  

Showcasing the diversity of HSR research outcomes 

  • HSR and the environment 

  • HSR and economic development 

  • Infrastructure and rolling stock 

Education themes:  

Showcasing the development and provision of education to facilitate HSR  

  • Innovative approaches to railway education, training, or knowledge transfer 

  • International relationships in railway education and training 

  • Education informed by railway research 

Papers: 

Selected abstracts will be presented during either the Research or Education Showcase sessions on Day 1 and Day 2. If selected, you will be asked to submit a 2-page paper outline for review. 

Following the conference, the abstracts for the best papers will be included in special issue proposals to be considered for publication in the following peer-reviewed journals:

By submitting a paper abstract, you agree to us passing your information on to the relevant journal editors if applicable.

We may invite you to submit a poster if you are not selected to present, as speaking slots are limited.

Posters: 

Authors of abstracts selected for poster presentation will be invited to prepare a poster following the poster template, to be published online in a virtual poster exhibition. There will be dedicated sessions for delegates to browse the posters, ask questions and connect with your research.

The deadline for abstract submission has been extended!

  • Submit abstracts for papers or posters – Wednesday 30 September
  • Paper and poster presenters notified – Wednesday 14 October
  • Paper presenters to submit paper outline – Tuesday 1 December
  • Conference – Monday 14 - Wednesday 16 December

Submit your abstract of no more than 250 words to hsr-education@contacts.bham.ac.uk for review, with the subject line HSR: Education Interchange 2020 Abstract: name, organisation, day 1 or 2, paper or poster.
