Professor Laura Piddock has been awarded the 2016 Microbiology Outreach Prize.  This is awarded  annually to a microbiologist who has engaged in high-quality outreach activities during the last 2–5 years.   Laura is an internationally renowned expert in antimicrobial research. She has been campaigning tirelessly, and with considerable success, to put the issue of antimicrobial resistance on the national and international agenda. She has also been championing the associated need to invest in research and development for the discovery of new antibiotics and strategies to combat the rise in antibiotic resistance.
