Industrial Specialisation Structure, Firm Demographic Patterns and Regional Growth

This project aims to analyse spatial distribution and characteristics of industrial demography in the region by undertaking research on the West Midlands industrial specialisation structure and its firm demographic patterns.

The project team is undertaking research on the West Midlands industrial specialisation structure and its firm demographic patterns. We aim to analyse spatial distribution and characteristics of industrial demography in the region. As far as specific sectors are concerned, we will investigate sector specialisation and entrepreneurial ecosystem with a specific focus on the transportation sector.

In addition, this project will pursue two core research agendas in industrial demography. The first will focus on the contribution of firms and the role of worker composition between firms in the rise in earnings inequality in the West Midlands. The second will investigate interdependencies between regional firm demography and economic resilience with a specific focus on minority entrepreneurs.
