Dr Danielle Fuller has been awarded an ESRC Research Grant, for the project ‘Death Before Birth’.

Dr Fuller will work closely with University colleague Professor Jeannette Littlemore and Dr Sheelagh McGuinness from the University of Bristol’s Law School for this socio-legal, linguistic study of pregnancy, awarded £429,780 by the ESRC.

The project will explore how people in England who have experienced miscarriage, termination, and stillbirth reach decisions concerning the disposal of the remains of pregnancy, how the perceptions of the law impact on their decision-making, and how they communicate their experiences and choices to those there to support them.

Working with health care professionals, support agencies and the bereaved, the research will inform and improve government policy and care pathways of people who have faced such experiences. The two-year project will start in September 2016, employing two postdoctoral researchers and a research assistant.
