The British Library launches their Discovering Literature: Medieval online resource, which provides free access to major medieval manuscripts from the 5th-15th centuries.
Collection items can be explored alongside public-facing articles about various genres, texts and authors, all of which include unprecedented access to images of digitised manuscripts and artefacts. Megan Cavell from EDACS took part in the project, penning an article about the Anglo-Saxon riddles of the Exeter Book – a manuscript whose digitised form has always remained firmly behind a paywall. In addition to introducing the Old English and Anglo-Latin riddle tradition, her article exposes the history of suppressing the Exeter Book’s more salacious content and probes the manuscript's rich representations of women’s sexuality.
