'The Trouble with Modernism': Dr Emma West's Response Published in The Modernist Review

Issue #10 of The Modernist Review, published by the British Association for Modernist Studies, featured ‘The Trouble with Modernism’, a frank and wide-ranging dialogue about the state of the discipline by Luke Seaber and Michael Shallcross.

The journal invited responses to their discussion: Emma West’s response ‘Me, Modernism and I’ is published this week.

Drawing on her experiences as a postdoctoral researcher working in- and outside modernist studies, Dr West explores possible ways forward for the field, including groups like the 20s30s Network, interdisciplinary collaboration, and partnerships with organisations outside academia. She asks whether bringing autobiographical details into our work can help to build alternative networks and suggest new ways of working.
