We are thrilled to welcome our new Professor, Michaela Mahlberg, who will be taking up the Chair in Corpus Linguistics in the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics in the autumn.
We are very much looking forward to working with Michaela, and exploring, amongst other things, the interface between Corpus Linguistics and Stylistics and its applications to the work of Charles Dickens.

Professor Mahlberg is currently Chair in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Nottingham, UK, where she is also the Director of the Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics (CRAL). She is the editor of the International Journal of Corpus Linguistics (John Benjamins) and co-editor of the book series Corpus & Discourse (Bloomsbury). Her publications include Corpus Stylistics and Dickens’s Fiction (Routledge, 2013), English General Nouns: A Corpus Theoretical Approach (John Benjamins, 2005), the co-edited Corpus Linguistics and Lexical Cohesion (John Benjamins, 2009) and the co-authored Text, Discourse and Corpora (Continuum, 2007). She is currently the principal investigator of the AHRC-funded project CLiC Dickens: Characterisation in the representation of speech and body language from a corpus linguistic perspective.
