The University’s involvement in Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary weekend made headlines around the world.

Professor Ewan Fernie was featured on BBC online debating why we should celebrate the Bard.

Dr Chris Laoutaris wrote for the Times Higher Education looking at whether the Shakespeare anniversary adds value to academic research.

Dr Laoutaris also wrote for BBC History Magazine on Shakespeare’s London and Oxford University Press blog on Shakespeare’s popularity.

Professor Michael Dobson did interviews with the Daily Mirror, Sky News, the Irish Independent and German broadcaster ARD.

The major Shakespeare anniversary celebrations in Stratford upon Avon over the weekend also featured the University of Birmingham. Since 2014 the University has been working with BBC Radio 3 around plans to mark the anniversary and played an important role in securing BBC Radio 3 coverage for the entire Celebrations weekend on 23-24 April including the Ode to Shakespeare event at Holy Trinity Church which featured Professors Michael Dobson and Ewan Fernie.

A video highlighting the work of the Shakespeare Institute has also been produced and activity will continue to build in the run up to the World Shakespeare Congress in July.
