Seeing and “touching” structures makes structural analysis learning more fun
Qualitative structural analysis, e.g. drawing the deflection shapes, bending moment and shear force diagrams for beams and frames, have always been a big challenge for civil engineering students. Similar questions also often appear in the job interview question list for structural engineering related positions.
The HESTEM funded a online learning kit called Expedition Workshed providing students opportunities to “load” structures and see these structural concepts.
Students can test most typical structures in this virtue environment and find learning structural analysis more of fun and easier.
