This study explores ‘Afropolitanism’, an African form of cosmopolitanism which is often seen as a trope hinging on questions of 21st-century African identity and belonging. Focusing on literature and popular culture in urban centres of Nigeria, Ghana and their UK/US diasporas, the project investigates representations of belonging in different forms of texts that are labelled ‘Afropolitan’ or which can be read in connection with recent discussions of the concept.
