Senior Lecturer in the Department of History, Lucie Ryzova; has secured a rare and highly prestigious grant from the Past & Present Society to mount a conference on the implications of photography for the study of history. It will be held here at the University of Birmingham at the end of May next year.

Best known for publishing Past & Present, one of the most highly regarded historical journals in the English speaking world, and one that pioneered the study of social history, the Past & Present Society fund a number of conferences and other scholarly events each year. It is however, only very occasionally, that the journal designates an event that it supports a “branded” conference offering it additional support and exposure. This makes securing funding so that one can take place at Birmingham a rare and prestigious honour.
