Mr James Lee, a Lecturer in the Law School, is to speak at a conference at the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom on Friday 12th October 2012. The Conference is entitled "The UK Supreme Court: An Assessment of the First Three Years", and is being organised by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies of the School of Law, Queen Mary, University of London. This major international conference will see practitioners, judges and academics come together to discuss various aspects of the Supreme Court's role. Speakers include Lord Hope of Craighead, who is the Deputy President of the Supreme Court, and His Honour Judge Paul Mahoney, of the European Court of Human Rights.
James, who is also an Academic Fellow of the Inner Temple, has been invited to speak on Supreme Court's approach to the doctrine of precedent. James' research is private law and jurisprudence, and he has published several articles on judicial reasoning in superior appellate courts. He was the editor of a book on the latter subject, From House of Lords to Supreme Court: Judges, Jurists and the Process of Judging (Hart Publishing, 2011)
