Professor Erica Rackley and the speakers at the Supreme Court's 'Being Human' event

Professor Erika Rackley joined a panel of speakers, chaired by Supreme Court Justice, Lord Carnwarth, to consider what it means for a judge to ‘be human’. To what extent can we expect judges to turn off their humanity when performing their role? Erika spoke on the importance of recognising the ‘humanity of judging’ for debates about judicial diversity.

The event held at the UK Supreme Court was part of ‘Being Human’, the UK’s first national festival of the humanities. Between the 15-23 November, 2014, hundreds of events are being held across the UK, to engage people with innovative research on the humanities.

You can read more about the Being Human festival on the festival’s blog and will shortly be able to watch an edited version of the seminar on the Supreme Court’s YouTube channel.
