Dr Stephen Smith, lecturer at Birmingham Law School, participated in an ethical roundtable at the Scottish Parliament on 20 January 2015. Dr Smith was asked to participate by the Health and Sport Committee to comment on the proposed Assisted Suicide (Scotland) Bill which is currently being considered by that committee.
Dr Smith is an expert on end-of-life issues in medical law and ethics. He has written articles on end of life issues in a number of journals in both the UK and internationally. He is also the author of End-of-Life Decisions in Medical Care: Principles and Policies for Regulating the Dying Process which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2012.
