Two of our young alumni are already making their mark in the industry - Jennifer Ogundemuren and Rachel Seaton have recently been awarded prestigious industry prizes.

Jennifer (LLB Law, 2014) was awarded third place in the UK Future Leaders Award by Powerful Media, a sister publication of the Black Power List, after being nominated during her final year of study.

Since graduation, Jennifer, who is an aspiring Public Health Consultant, has completed an internship at Vedic Lifecare Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, and  recently qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language worldwide.  She is currently working for InterHealth Worldwide in London.

Jennifer said, “It was such a surreal moment to hear my name being called out. It’s humbling to know that someone deemed me worthy enough to stand alongside such incredible talent. I am so thankful because now my younger sister can look in the magazine and see people who look just like her doing incredible things.”

Fellow Birmingham alumna Sandie Okoro (LLB Law, 1986) placed fourth on the Black Power List of 2015, chiefly known for profiling the 100 most influential black people in Britain each year. Sandie placed among many household names including Lewis Hamilton, Steve McQueen, and Chuka Umunna.

Rachel Seaton (LLB Law with Business, 2010) is celebrating winning the Legal category at the Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) awards. The BYPY Awards showcase rising professionals in the business and financial service sectors. Rachel is currently a solicitor at Shoosmiths in the city.

Rachel was presented with her award at a grand ceremony at Birmingham’s ICC, hosted by Countdown’s Rachel Riley – more than 900 guests were in attendance.

Rachel was one of five University of Birmingham alumni to be successful at the awards – including Katie Kershaw (PGDip Historic Environment Conservation, 2012), who was named overall winner of Birmingham Young Professional of the Year 2015.
