As the nation’s public service broadcaster, the BBC has a keen interest in utilising AI and data-driven services.  This project will be one of the tools the BBC uses to gain an understanding of this complex area through the research insights this project will generate.  The BBC will provide guidance and steering as to the concerns of the BBC, and the wider public media, around AI and offering data-driven services to the public.  It will provide access to suitable staff inside the BBC, suitable data and provide a main point of contact.  The BBC will also assist by providing use cases and problem areas of direct interest to its work and mission that fall within the scope of the project.  The student will be provided with regular opportunities to sit with and work directly with BBC teams to better understand the BBC ‘s concerns and challenges. 

  • Stipend - £14,777 plus an additional £500 per annum to facilitate partnership working (pro rata for part-time)
  • Tuition Fees - £4,260 (pro rata for part-time)
  • Research Training Support Grant - at £200 per student per year (pro rata for part-time)
