The Midlands4Cities DTP will fund and train the next generation of highly skilled arts and humanities researchers through PhD Scholarships.
Our consortium partners are present in the four cities of Nottingham, Birmingham, Coventry and Leicester: they include the University of Warwick, Birmingham City University, De Montfort University, University of Leicester, Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham and Coventry University.
The M4C competition has opened, and the submission date for applicants is the 13 January at noon. Successful applicants will receive 3.5 years funding for a full-time Open Doctoral Award, as well as access to a diverse range of training courses. Awards for UK residents cover UK tuition fees and provide a stipend at the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) rate. Students must have a masters or have completed one by the time they commence the PhD. M4C will be awarding up to 89 scholarships in an open competition across each of the eight consortium universities for 2021 entry.
International students worldwide will also be able to apply for an M4C studentship for the start of the 2021/22 academic year. From 2020/21 onwards, the University of Birmingham is classifying EU students as international students, which means they will pay international fees.
International students will be eligible for a grant covering tuition fees at the UK rate of £4,407 and a stipend of £15,285 per annum to support living costs. Effectively, this means that students from across the world can apply, they are eligible for a stipend, but fees will only be covered at the UK rate and not the University International fee rate of 16,000 GBP approximately. The number of international students which the M4C can fund is capped at 30%. Please note that this new category does not affect students who have already been awarded M4C funding.
