Dr Alessandro Corio, Marie Curie Research Fellow in French Studies, recently gave a paper at the Society for Francophone Postcolonial Studies (SFPS) Annual Conference, ‘Postcolonial Bodies’, a two-day research conference on many different issues related to the body in the Francophone postcolonial cultures and literatures: sexuality, spectacle, gender, body modifications, performance, queer, biopolitics, death, food etc. The conference took place at the Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies, Senate House, University of London, and brought together over 20 international speakers.
Dr Corio’s paper discussed the issues of the colonial body and biopolitics in the Caribbean context and specifically in the work of the Martinican writer Édouard Glissant.
