Dr Alessandro Corio is currently a Visiting Researcher at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Alessandro is a Marie Curie Research Fellow in French Studies at Birmingham, working with Principal Investigator Dr Louise Hardwick on a 2-year European Commission funded research project on Caribbean Biopolitics.

At Emory, Alessandro is working alongside Professor Valérie Loichot, a leading researcher in Caribbean Studies. Valérie's most recent monograph, The Tropics Bite Back: Culinary Coups in Caribbean Literature (2013), provides a fresh view of ideas of consumption, both metaphorical and material, in Caribbean culture, demonstrating that tracing consumption provides important political, economic and cultural insights. During the visit, Alessandro is also discussing his research on Edouard Glissant with fellow Early Career Researcher Dr Michael Wiedorn, at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, who is an ongoing contributor to the Marie Curie Research project.

The visit strengthens ongoing links between the University of Birmingham's College of Arts and Law and leading North American Universities.
