A packed Royal Albert Hall

As part of the BBC Proms Youth Choir, Birmingham University Singers will be performing on the opening night of the BBC Proms, which will be broadcast live on BBC TV and radio.

Birmingham University Singers are the top choir at the University of Birmingham and are led by Professor Simon Halsey, Director of Choral Studies. They are one of only five choirs who have been chosen to form the BBC Proms Youth Choir – their fellow singers will be the CBSO Youth Choir, Codetta, Hallé Choir and the National Youth Choir of Wales. Together they will be conducted by Sakari Oramo and will perform Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony alongside the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; the performance will also feature Sally Matthews as soprano, Roderick Williams as baritone and Stephen Hough on piano.

The event is taking place on Friday 12 July 2013 in the Royal Albert Hall at 7.30pm. The choir are after the interval, so will be broadcast around 9pm. You can listen to them live on BBC Radio 3 and it will be broadcast on BBC Two in the evening. Further information is available at the BBC Proms website.
