On 21/22 April 2015 the UN High Level Thematic Debate on Tolerance and Reconciliation: Fostering Peaceful, Inclusive Societies and Countering Violent Extremism took place in New York at United Nations Headquarters.
Bhai Sahib Mohinder Singh (Chairman of the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha) from Birmingham, a recipient of a Honorary Doctorate from the University of Birmingham, participated in the event as a speaker in the UN General Assembly plenary session and in the afternoon panel debate. He was accompanied by Dr Josef Boehle (above right) who conducts a research project on Religion and Peacebuilding in International Relations at the Department of Theology and Religion and who is the Director of the Charter for Forgiveness and Reconciliation project which was initiated in Birmingham in 2013.
