On 9th July we are holding a research conference on community-led housing with a special focus on Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Held in collaboration with Birmingham Community-led Housing Partnership the conference connects international academic research, local community activism and policy to support community-led housing in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Our organising committee includes key national and local activists and researchers in Community-led housing.
We have attracted international speakers from Austria and Australia, editors of two academic journal special issues on community-led housing in 10 countries, national policy makers from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Homes England and the cabinet lead on housing from Birmingham City Council.
There will be an emphasis on supporting activists with pop up workshops for local projects, updates from the newly formed Birmingham Community-led Housing Partnership and advice from the Confederation for Cooperative Housing, Locality, National Community Land Trust Network and Leeds Community Homes.
There will also be a pop up space for researchers working on PhDs on community-led housing, a special panel session asking what research activists and policy makers in the community-led housing space need, a workshop led by Dr Richard Lang to consult on findings of a two year Marie Curie project 'co-operative capital' and a plenary research presentation by Dr Tom Moore on learning from Urban CLTs and from partnerships with housing associations.
