Top rankings for the School
The University of Birmingham has been ranked number one in the UK for both Sport Science and Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism in The Sunday Times and The Times Good University Guide 2017.
The league table examines factors such as student experience, research quality and graduate prospects, and awarded Birmingham the maximum overall score of 100 for both subjects.
The number one ranking for Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism reflects the quality of the Applied Golf Management Studies degree course. The University was also ranked number two for Physiotherapy, with an impressive overall score of 99.6.
These rankings follow the School’s outstanding performance in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF 2014) in which more than half of its research was ranked as 4*, identifying it as world leading, and 90 percent of its research was classified as world leading or internationally excellent.
The School also has an excellent record of employment, with up to 100% of its graduates in jobs or further study six months after graduation (DLHE 2014/15 data).
Thanks to a £16.4 million investment, Birmingham boasts the largest custom built Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences facility in the UK. This includes teaching and research laboratories for physiology, biochemistry, psychophysiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, motor skills, immunology, muscle mechanics and the neurophysiology of movement.
As part of its ongoing strong commitment to sport, exercise and physical activity, the University is investing in a new £55 million sports centre due to open in December 2016.
