Meet Ernn
How did you decide on your subject of study?
I have a strong interest in law; I enjoy reading articles and staying updated on current events in my free time. To me, Law is an incredibly versatile degree, one that encourages critical thinking and sharpens my ability to analyse complex issues. Since I didn’t take Law during my UEC, it’s an entirely new and exciting field for me.
What's your favourite module and why?
My favourite module so far is Contract Law. A unique and surprising module I’ve encountered in my first month is Criminal Law. It’s fascinating to examine cases as part of studying Criminal Law.
What's the most underrated spot in Birmingham?
In my opinion, the main library is one of the most underrated spots in Birmingham. It offers a wealth of facilities and resources to all students, with 24/7 access during term time and up to 2,000 study spaces available.
What's one piece of advice you can share for incoming students?
Although I’ve only been here for a month, one piece of advice I’d give to incoming students is to seize the opportunities the university offers.
For my degree, a weekly newsletter from the Head of Law every Monday highlights career fairs, internships, competitions, and events. It’s essential to look through these and take advantage of any opportunity to build your CV.
Additionally, there are many job opportunities at the university to help ease students' financial needs. Students can choose roles that match their interests, gaining experience and earning money.
Personally, I joined the Student Ambassador Content Creator team, where I get paid hourly to do work I enjoy and collaborate with new friends from different courses.
Anything you'd like to add?
I am immensely grateful to the University of Birmingham for awarding me this scholarship. As an international student, the financial assistance has been invaluable.
I encourage all students to make the most of their time at UOB. It’s a prestigious university with a beautiful, expansive campus and countless opportunities. I hope to make full use of these experiences on my path to becoming an aspiring lawyer in the future.
